Future of Design APF #futrchat - Recap in ebook format - enjoy!

    Seedcathedral_wikicommons_closeup

The APF's tenth #futrchat on the Future of Design for July 2011 is now published as the second futrchat e-book. You can read the pdf here or the ebooklet via the link (which is a far better reading experience.) Thanks to Maree Conway for serving as my co-host and for her thoughtful blog post. Good to see many other APF members too. I think its fair to say that we generated the most animated futrchat by far.

We experienced a number of firsts this month.

    1. Jim Cramer, Design Intelligence @dinet, served as the first APF futrchat geo-host. Jane Gaboury and Jim brought along a slew of new futrchatters, or as a more dignified version: design-types who for an hour immersed themselves in the futrchat experience. They also served as my host during chat, and I must say, that was fun. As the tweets flew, we shared ideas and it reshaped the conversation. Jane is an editor so her on-the-spot wordsmithing fine-tuned several questions.
    2. A few APF members leaped in specifically because of the topic, design futures. Lloyd Walker and Jake Dunagan fed the twitter stream with a wealth of ideas. Talking about design combined with Design Intelligence's posse of friends and our APF group raised our total participants to 90 people from eleven countries!  Imagine that!
    3. And we were active. All told, we posted 817 tweets, and close to thirty links, which created a rich 113-page Future of Design ebook. You'll find the design futures participants recognized in a list, another first.

The next futrchat will be Thursday 18 August 2011 4:00-5:00pm ET/NYC, which is 9:00pm BST/London and 6:00am Sydney. Possible August topics are the Future of Nature, of Vision (metaphoric and/or literal), of Wearables/Clothes. Do any of these capture your futures imagination? Or suggest alternative topics via our form; click on the tab at the top of the page, all welcome!
